Gender discrimination is the act of discriminating between sexes (male and female) in various forms in the societies and treating less for women rather than males. It is deeply rooted in poor, developed and developing countries in the world. Gender discrimination is still prevalent in work place though various efforts have been done to minimize it. Male and female have differed wages and salaries performing the same works and having the same qualifications. Gender discrimination is rooted since very ancient days in the society.
In work place there is various discriminations based on gender. Married women who have children have to face various problems while getting the job. She is easily excluded in interview because she has to bear family responsibilities. There have been made the provision of not asking the family background but during the interview it comes in process. In the work place, sexual harassment, verbally scolding and physical violence are found and mostly women are discriminated widely. It affects personal relationships directly or indirectly which results in conflicts among the staffs in the work place. Gender discrimination is the unlawful activities done in the workplace but the employers are not aware about it. The employee works bearing all sorts of discrimination and it comes on public if he/she cannot perform jobs or impossible to do. Married women are not allowed to perform the job which may be as night duty by their husbands and family members. It can be said as the marital discrimination and both the discriminations come alternatively. Example, among four data collectors, two are male and two are female with equal qualifications. The organizations send only 2 males in the field because they think that female cannot walk as much as male walk and female are terminated from the opportunity and lack less salary. To think so weak for female in the workplace is gender discrimination. In the workplace there shouldn't be the discrimination based on different races, ages, religion, caste, culture, nationality and sex. There should be created a suitable environment of mutual understanding and cooperation between the workers and employers. Women who are pregnant are excluded from job and employer replaces the job to man because man can do the work efficiently and the employers have to bear loss of compensation as well as holiday for pregnant women. It is a very unlawful activity. In the offices, training on workplace gender discrimination should be conducted time to time to alert the employees about the kinds of gender discrimination. So, there will be a creation of safe environment for the workers and good understandings between them. It will not harm one's self esteem and personality. Employers should not assign a job based on gender because of the preference of the costumers and the clients. Male are considered capable in any sorts of activities and they play a leadership roles. So the practice of employing the male is higher than the females in the organizations.
Gender discrimination is deeply rooted all over the world even in the developed countries. The employee duty is to provide safe environment which are free from sexual harassment and other discriminations for the workers to work safely in the workplace. It can be controlled and eliminated from the root if the face of the society is changed and strict rules and laws are made and implemented in a proper way.
