Depression; as an increasing threat


Depression is the psychosocial mood disorder characterized by negative and unwanted thoughts, certain change of behaviors, loss of interests and sadness which leads to various physical and emotional problems. It brings variety of problem in daily life. Depression leads to suicidal tendencies, self harm, not interested with people, feels as if life is very worthless, boring and tends to live alone. It varies from mild to very severe types of depressions. Depression is one of the global public health problems.
Depression as the most prevailing mental disorder is increasing day by day in the world. There are various key factors which makes people depressed. Certain hormonal changes in the human body like thyroid gland problems and menopause may cause depression and it is inherited traits. People are depressed because of loss of loved one, unemployment, social isolation, lost of parents, homelessness, violence in various forms and many more reasons. Such situation creates mental imbalances as negative feelings and thoughts arise. A person with depression feels lonely and needs support, care and love to sustain life. Without it, they cannot adjust and take suicide as a greatest relief.  Unemployment is increasing all over the world as it has been the global problem. So, many youths of the world are unemployed and cannot rear the children and family. It creates hopelessness and depressed. Depression is mostly seen in poor people but nowadays rich people are also prone to depression. Sometimes relationship conflicts and marital divorce creates mental disorder which may vary from mild to severe cases. People with depression have loss of appetite, not fresh looks on the face, insomnia, restless in behaviors, have difficulty to focus towards the subject matters, loss of body weights, pain in the body parts and many more symptoms. Sometimes, they get sweating and become hopeless. Mostly elderly people are depressed because of loneliness life, dependant daily life, lack of love, care and affections from children and relatives. They need a happy and supporting life for surviving longer life. Depressions have various treatments like taking of anti depressants, counseling and psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is very useful which helps them to increase coping behavior and increases the ability of tolerating pains and sorrows. It is better to consult the psychologist for better treatment. For severe depressant patients should be admitted at the hospital for some days. It should be treated in time.
Depression as a second leading cause of disability is globally found in the 21th century all over the world in developed as well as developing countries. Rehabilitation centers are useful for treating severe depressed patients. Depression can be avoided by increasing self esteem, avoiding extreme stresses; morbidity and mortality are also associated with it which affects the quality of life causing various diseases burdens.
