Obesity as an alarming health problem

          Obesity is the abnormal and excessive increase of fats in the body. The popular measurement for obesity is BMI which represents for body mass index. It is calculated by dividing body weight in kilogram by the square of the height in meters. BMI less than 18.5 is under weight, 18.5 to 24.9 are healthy/ normal, 25 to 29.5 are over weight and greater than 30 are obese. The problem of obesity is increasing world wide.
Obesity is a chronic disease inviting risks of harmful diseases. In most of the society, weight gain has been taken as healthy but it does not symbolize good health. The problem of the obesity is increasing day by day in the world because of various reasons. It have been found that the number of obese have been doubled since 1980 to 2014. Population with obesity is highly risk to death than the underweight population. It signifies that to be obese is dangerous to human health. The most cause for it is unplanned dietary practice as people of the world are attracted towards fast foods due to availability and accessibility. Most of the obese population including children, women and men of western countries has sedentary life styles. They consume high amount of energy leading foods containing fats, vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins and remains passive without any physical works. The inputs should be equal to the outputs because being inactive and consuming high amount of fatty foods will increase body weight and finally become obese. The availability of transportation and urbanization is increasing which limits the physical exercise like walking. Most of the people are obese due to their heredity, consumption of medicines, after giving birth to a child, lack of sleep and lack of production of thyroid hormone.  They cannot control their unplanned dietary habit and do not have the excessive knowledge about the health effects of obesity. Such obese people have difficulty in breathing while walking a few steps. They cannot perform any sorts of physical activities and become less active. Many obese people in the world are dying because of the hypertension, cancer, osteoarthritis, reproductive problems, kidney stones, hemorrhage, stroke, chronic diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, arthritis and many more diseases. So, there are various preventive measures for obesity. Consumption of foods which do not contain much carbohydrates, proteins and fats is encouraged. Food should be consumed according to the work to be performed. For sedentary life style, less amount of food should be taken. Physical exercise in the morning is the main way of reducing weight and fruits should be eaten more as it contains fibers which helps in controlling weight. Green and raw vegetables should be eaten more instead of fatty meat and fast foods.
Finally, obesity is also known as the silent killer which brings obese people at risk of different diseases leading to death.  It is found all over the world in urbanized, developing and highly developed countries. People should be made aware about the health effects of obesity and encouraging them to follow healthy diet practices. Physical exercise can be encouraged to perform daily.
